Steven Gerrard is being strongly considered for a dramatic comeback to Rangers following the confirmed sacking of manager Russell Martin.

Martin's unsuccessful Ibrox tenure finished with the gaffer departing the Falkirk Stadium via a rear entrance and a pre-arranged transport after a level finish which left the Ibrox club 11 points from the summit of the premier division after just seven matches.

The reappointment of the Anfield legend, who last managed in Saudi Arabia, would be widely welcomed.

Gerrard will also be mindful of what scarce chances he has to be a head coach in top-tier competitions.

Martin's previous experience
