Nearly a thousand People Stuck on Everest Hillsides

Search and rescue missions are currently ongoing on the remote Tibetan side of Mount Everest, where a severe snowstorm has trapped around a thousand individuals in temporary shelters on the eastern side of the summit.

Several hundred residents and response units have been deployed to clear out accumulated snow preventing entry to the region, which sits at an altitude of more than 4,900 meters.

A number of visitors have been evacuated successfully from the impacted site.

A major snow event began on Friday night and has intensified on the east side of Mount Everest in the Tibetan region, an location popular with climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.

It has been stated that tents had fallen due to the heavy snow, and several individuals were showing symptoms of low body temperature.

Entry passes and admission to the Everest tourism site have been suspended starting Saturday.

The zone is facing severe conditions, with adjacent Nepal being battered by torrential downpours that have led to rockfalls and flash floods, washing away bridges and claiming the lives of at least 47 people in the last two days.

In China, a tropical storm has made landfall, compelling around 150,000 people to evacuate from their homes.

Everest is the world's highest peak at above 8,849 meters. Although many people attempt to climb the peak every year, it is seen as an extremely risky expedition.

In recent years, it has been affected by issues with over-tourism, ecological issues, and a number of deadly expeditions.
