Exploring an Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of engaging independent titles. However, one stands out for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is actually a piece of poop trying to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Throughout 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and visit a shop to purchase skins for your poop character.
Execute your jumps carefully, as a error means starting over. Jump off air pockets to hurl yourself upward, navigate crumbling surfaces, and interact with switches to reveal secret routes. Gather currency for buying challenging stages as gameplay gets crazy.
In terms of design, the demo features eye-catching environments and an amazing soundtrack. The retro graphics with shifting geometric shapes could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to recall similar titles where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment have long featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ manure as plant food. Unsurprisingly, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, including being named best at Bandai Namco's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on PC in the fall.
