China's Ice Dancers Under Investigation After Displaying Toy Missile during Competition

The International Skating Union have launched an investigation following a pair of Chinese figure skaters were seen with an object resembling a toy ballistic missile during an international skating competition.

Television video captured Ren Junfei and Xing Jianing sitting with a sizable prop in the form of a rocket labeled “DF-61” as they awaited the judges' results at the “kiss and cry” zone during the event.

This model is a recently introduced China-produced land-based long-range weapon capable of transporting atomic warheads, which was unveiled during a national ceremony last month.

Officials is aware of an unsuitable plush item seems to have been among those thrown on to the rink by spectators after a routine at the ISU Figure Skating Grand Prix Cup of China event,” the ISU stated in an emailed statement.

“The soft toy was subsequently handled by the athletes who had just performed. The ISU regrets the incident and will investigate further.”

The duo finished eighth of 10 pairs in the ice dance event, which was won by the American pair from the US.
